Not much going on.

It's been a slow week here for us. Just a bunch of the usual goings on. I've been spending my time studying, and Anton has been taking up the slack in my parental and wifal roles.

For those who care to know what scoping (the stuff I've been studying) is all about I will give you a quick run-down. Court reporters sit in on cases, depositions, etc., writing everything down in a shorthand called stenography. They then run this shorthand through a computer that translates it into English. However, the court reporter and the computer are not perfect so the resulting transcript can be quite a mess. The scopist's job is to take the messy transcript and edit it to turn it into a nice one without changing what was said, which is the tricky part. So you have to be able to read stenography and know all sorts of legal and medical terms and anything else that make come up in court. There's lots of grammar and punctuation involved too.

So that's the idea. And that's what I'm studying to do. This week I've been doing stenography. I'll be getting more into grammar next week and more fun after that. Then in a few weeks, if I can do this all fast, I'll be able to start working. My idea is to do this while Anton is going to school so he doesn't have to work. I can do it at home on my own time so it should work out nicely.

In other news, we took Ella to the doctor yesterday because she's been complaining about her stomach hurting everytime she eats. I'm pretty sure she has reflux, and the doctor took me at my word and prescribed her some Zantac. I've already forgotten to give her a dose. I'm terrible at remembering medication. It's why I could never use the pill. I'd be having babies left and right. :)

Also yesterday, Alex woke up in the middle of his nap crying and squirming and acting really not well. Then all of a sudden he threw up everywhere, except on me thankfully. Poor kid. It was nasty. He doesn't chew his food well.

Could all of this be any more random and full of stuff most of you probably don't care about? But I can't think of anything else worth rambling about. Maybe next week we can find something more exciting to entertain you all with. Take care!

That scoping thing sounds interesting. I never even knew there's a job like that.. And it must be a bit of a challenge too with all the legal and other terms.. I hope you'll like it!

sick kids in not fun. Bella has had a horrible running nose all week. I can't count the boxes of tissue we've gone through. They even kicked her out of nursery today.

Sounds like you are busy. I hate it when kids get sick. It just makes everything so much more complicated! Hope you are getting a lot of study time!

I am really glad you described the scoping thing, because I had never heard of it and was curious. I am a fan of any job you can do from the comfort of your own home!

Something to maybe try with Ella's reflux problem - vinegar.

Matthew was getting it really bad a few years ago, especially after eating meals heavy in bread or pasta sauce, and it was becomming so bad that it went from popping a few tums, to a lot of tums, to various over the counter medications, and was almost going to have to find a prescription to help the growing problem. Then we read about why your body keeps making the acid and how to turn the receptor off by giving it a dose of acid and it realizing it doesnt need to keep producing it [reflux]. Now, when ever he is feeling that uncomfortable feeling, or it starts acting up, he eats a salad with oil and vinegar dressing, or goes out for fish and chips with lots of vinegar, and it works every time. He doesn't have to take any pills now, and he knows what to do if/when he just notices the feeling coming back.

It's worth giving it a shot, unless she hates vinegar :o)

Include me in the crowd that didn't know of the scoping job. The job sounds challenging and fascinating. Best of luck with your studies and being able to help Anton. I hope the kids get well soon, too!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that didn't know about scoping--I was thinking some kind of medical exam thing (which did NOT sound fun)

I'm so glad you update your blog so we know what's going on with you (and your chocolate milk stories in my comments!)

I'm sorry Anton woke up crying and screaming. You really shouldn't post that. It's not very becoming of a naval aviator.

Amanda, ever since I saw that one movie..I can't think of it now. I have wanted to look into stenography. I totally knew what you were talking about when I started reading. Thanks for taking the plunge first. Let me know all the interesting details.
