Save My Brain!

I am getting dumber.  More and more often I find myself unable to think of a word I want to say even though I know I used to know said word.  It's really frustrating.  And it's not like I'm not putting all sorts of words into my head.  I read court transcripts almost daily, full of their legalese and such.  I've read over 28 books since the new year.  (Though granted only one of them has been nonfiction and the rest were completely brainless fiction.)  So why does it feel like my intelligence is leaking out of my head like water from a sieve?  I used to be smart and witty, once upon a time.  There hasn't been any pregnancy or childbirth in over 3 years, so I should have been able to make up for anything the two I had caused me to lose.  I'm sure my kids continually suck the life from my cerebrum, but it can't be faster than I'm putting it in, can it?

So I'm beginning Project Save My Brain.  Unfortunately, I don't know where to start.  That's the problem with a broken brain, it can't think up how to fix itself.  Do I need to read more intellectual books?  Take a class?  Interact more with people with vocabularies larger than a kindergartener?  Meditate?  Help!  I'm sending out an S.O.S.  And since my blog readers are the smartest people I know (and also the only people I know) I turn to you.  How do you keep your brain in shape?  How many sets and reps do you do each day?  I need the secret to a strong, unleaky brain!

Yep, I am no help at all. Girl, I am way more gone than you are and a year younger!! LOL, I think it's the Brubaker curse!!! LOL!!!

I think you are very smart and you aren't dumb at all. Maybe join a book club so you get girl talk. That seems to help. Adult conversation.

Sorry, I can't help either. Somtimes when I think back to college, I'm in awe that I used to be somewhat intelligent. I'm sure I'm 90% less intelligent now. Good luck, if you find something that works pass the advice this way

When you find out the answer, post it on your blog and let us all know. I find myself having the same problem of not being able to think of the word I want to use, so some other strange word seems to jump out and then I don't make any sense and sound stupid.

Learn another language. It makes it go to mush for the rest of the day, but the next day it feels stronger... like a workout.

Oh and I hear Oreos help. Glad to help. :)

SLEEP! That is the only cure for brain help. That is why you can't think of words. Do crossword or sudoku or things that make you think. That is how you work out your brain. (not that I do any of that, I just live with the stupidness)

Games! I'm sure this sounds really silly, but games seriously help me think, plan, and relax all at the same time. The best thing is there are all kinds of genres so you can play all kinds of games, and many can be educational. Read books. Watch educational programming. I'm still suffering from brain leakage (I'm totally blaming pregnancy) but at least it's not as bad as I know it could be. I like Monique's idea of learning another language.

I feel exactly the same about my brain. I feel like a dunce these days. I often dream of the days when I had intelligent things to say besides "I changed a poopy diaper today" or "I mopped." Best of luck with your brain exercises.
